Julia Channon

Julia Augusta Channon, 83, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center.
Julia was born March 2, 1931 in Des Moines to Roy and Jennie (Hackett) Shannon. She graduated from East High School in 1949. Julia retired from Armstrong Pirelli Tire after 52 years of service. In her younger years, she was the pitcher on the Cohen Supermarket softball team. She enjoyed camping and attending her family’s sporting events and was a scorekeeper for many years. Julia was an avid NASCAR fan and loved Jeff Gordon. She is lovingly remembered by her family not only as a feisty lady not afraid to speak her mind but as a “caregiver”, always there to help out anyone who needed her.
Julia is survived by her children, Mike (Mary) Channon and Kayla Blanchard; grandchildren, Jennifer Channon, Jason (Tanna) Channon, Angel (Kyle) Julius, Jonathan Heiny and Meredith Heiny; great-grandchildren, Conner, Carlee, Dominic and Payton; sister, Kay Shannon; and a host of extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rex; siblings, Juanita, Maralyn and Lee; and her longtime companion, Alfred “Pete” Wade.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home followed by burial at Vandalia Cemetery.

I am so sorry for your loss! I used to come visit when I was a young boy.
Grandpa charles was Roys brother.
My dad is a first cousin to Julia .
I use to love to go see aunt Jennie as we called her. She always made made us feel welcome to enjoy a fine meal.with my deepest condolences. PAT Shannon.
