Wesley Kooker
January 16, 2015
Wesley was born September 11, 1922 in Audubon, IA and went to his heavenly home on January 16, 2015 at Valley View Care Center. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Wilda; son, Doyle (Betty) of Altoona; daughter, Marcia (Tony) of Longs, SC; brother, Stephen (Kay) of Austin TX; aunt, Lillian of Strawberry Point; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Wesley is preceded in death by his parents; son, Phillip; brothers, Earl, Merrill and Phillip; and sister, Anita.
Wesley graduated from Polk City School and in his younger years was an avid fisherman. Farming was his lifelong work - 19 years SE of Madrid and 19 more years in Aplington. He retired to Altoona in 1985 and moved to Valley View in 2011. Wesley’s main purpose in life was to serve the Lord.
Wesley would offer no apologies to any Green Bay fan for his joy at the Packers “getting knocked down a notch.” His favorite team was anyone who could defeat them. He loved watching football and almost any other sport (to Wilda’s boredom).
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 23 at Sunshine Open Bible Church, 2130 Easton Blvd., with burial at Fairview Cemetery in Madrid, IA.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Sunshine Open Bible, 2130 Easton Blvd, Des Moines, IA 50317, or Valley View Village, 2571 Guthrie, Des Moines, IA 50317.

My sincere condolences to you Aunt Wilda and Family.
I have so many memories of Uncle Wesley and yes, a LOT of them are of him sitting in front of a TV watching football. ;o)
Most importantly, I have to say the absolute picture of him in my mind's eye is of him with a huge, friendly and joyful smile on his face. He was always this way every time I saw him. He was always teasing me and joking with me during family gatherings at Grandma Kooker's house and later during his visits with Wilda to visit mom here in Arkansas.
He will be missed but it was an honor to know him.
Love,
Barry
