He oversaw the construction of the original Prairie Meadows and served on the Board of Directors of the Racing Association of Central Iowa.

In memory of his former law partner, The James P. Irish Law Scholarship for Drake University Law School was started. He along with his good friend, Mike Horton, were instrumental in ensuring the continuation of the Vocational- Technical Exposition started at Southeast Polk. It continues to this day. Lois and family -- I was so sorry to hear about your loss of Ed. I only got to know him in the past few years. But, I knew in the first conversation that this was a man who worked hard, cared deeply and made things happen. He leaves a tremendous legacy and, I'm sure, amazing memories. All my best to all of you.

I'm so sorry I won't be able to make it up to Iowa for Ed's funeral. Unfortunately family funerals are reunions but remind us of how fortunate we all are because of the best mentoring from our parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles & cousins. Ed was very proud of the Bumann family dynamics and such a big influence. We'll all miss his hand squeeze & "I'm proud of you" encouragement. Hugs and kisses.

Ed was a true friend for over 40 years. Eds supportive professional advice while I was a Councilman and Mayor of Mitchellville and Administrative Assistant To Mayor Lloyd Sievers of Altoona was invaluable. Ed was an exceptional, highly intelligent Iowan who accomplished more in his time with us then most people could even imagine. As a true professional and friend Ed will be sincerely missed.
Ed was truly blessed with you Brad and your family. God Bless You All.
