Patricia M. (Funk) Mills

Patricia Mae (Funk) Mills quietly passed away on January 7, 2015 at Sunnyview Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa at the age of 85 years.

Patricia (Pat) was born on May 7, 1929 in Muncie, Indiana to the parents of William Albert and Betty Irene (Morris) McNamara. She was predeceased in life by both of her parents, William Lewis McNamara (brother) and Karen Sue Funk (daughter).

Most of her life was spent in the greater Des Moines area graduating from her beloved East High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to her first love, Harold Clinton Funk on March 12, 1949. They spent 31 years together in Des Moines, Newton and Urbandale owning a variety of local businesses. Harold passed away in 1980.

She loved people and socializing with others, particularly with a group of East High friends (The Club) who met monthly for over 50 years. She was active on bowling teams and church groups. Pat’s primary life work was being a homemaker and also spent many years employed at Iowa Des Moines National Bank and Sears and Roebuck.

Pat and Harold had three additional children; Norma Jean (Jon) Geller of Fort Collins, Colorado, Bill (Connie) Funk of Ankeny, Iowa and Bob (Becky) Funk of Altoona, Iowa. She is survived by these children, six grandchildren, and one great grandchild.

Her grandchildren are Josey Geller, Alex Geller, Natalie (John) Nannas, Danny Funk, Beth (Gary) Messer and Bridget (Casey) Wright. Her one great grandchild is Jaelyn Messer, daughter of Beth and Gary Messer.

Pat married Kenneth G. Mills of Grimes, Iowa in 1984 where they made their home until moving to Johnston, Iowa in later years. Ken passed away in 2011.

Her passions included helping people, Catholic faith, dogs, cooking, dancing and music. Most of all she loved her family who held a special place in her heart. Her final wishes were for her children and grandchildren to live and love life as much as she did.

A private memorial service for her immediate family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of her to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
