Service Details
Paul Fullmer, 87, passed away January 7, 2015 at Edgewater. Services will be held at Lutheran Church of Hope where he was a member, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, IA on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior.
Paul was born on March 11, 1927 to Emil and Grace Fullmer in New Virginia, Iowa. He joined the U.S. Navy in October of 1947. After the Navy, he started working for Iowa Farm Bureau where he retired after 36 years. He enjoyed meeting his retired friends for lunch, attending auctions, working with horses, and spending time with family.
Paul is survived by his daughters, Denise (Jim) Taylor and Melanie (Jeff) Shellberg; grandchildren, Jeremiah (Erin) Taylor and Cody Taylor; sisters-in-law, Ruthann Fullmer and Jean Chincholl; numerous nieces, nephews and many special friends, especially Duane and Pennye Joos, and Dick and Elaine Mueller; step-children, Ben, Kurt, and Debbie; 8 step-grandchildren; and 15 step-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary and second wife, Gunvor; his parents; and brothers, Max, Emil Jean, Lowell, and Kenneth.
Paul’s family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Wesley Hospice and Edgewater Bluestem for the care they provided to Paul.

Denise and Melanie, our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family's at this difficult time. Alot of memories come flooding back, all GOOD. Your father was truly one of a kind, one of the nicest persons I have ever met! I feel very fortunate and blessed to have had the privilege to have known him. Thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of Paul Fullmer. He was a very kind and loving grandfather who was also very down to earth, funny and easy going. He has done well and lived a long fruitful life and loved the Lord. We miss his presence on this earth. Love out to all who have been touched by him, whether through relations or by his smile.

Deniae & Melaine - So sorry for the loss of your Father. He was a great man and a very close friend of mine. I'll never watch CNBC TV without thinking of him. At age 20 he hired me at Farm Bureau, which I'll always be greatfull for, and we always had a special relationship, not only at FB but outside of work also. He got his wish that he didn't have to suffer to long. I know he had a strong faith and was ready to meet his Lord.

So many memories, eating ice cream, talking horses, taking kids, just talking. Your parents were part of my horse family, the best part.
All those open horse shows, all the fun that was had, the easy way he had about him.
Wonderful memories.
