Lillie May Smith

Lillie Smith, 95, passed away at her home in Mitchellville on December 30, 2014. She was born October 26, 1919 in Edgar Springs, Missouri, daughter of Thomas and Alpha Rector.

Lillie was a self-employed hairdresser and also worked as a keypunch operator for Meredith Publishing and the State of Iowa. She belonged to several square dancing clubs, loved flower gardening, and mowing with her John Deere tractor. Lillie also enjoyed spending time with her dog, Casper, and spoiling her grandchildren.

Lillie is survived by her daughter, Dorothy (Jim) Blough; grandsons, Jeffrey (Barb) Blough and Chris (Joan) Blough; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Donald; second husband, Paul; and her siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at Hamilton’s Mitchellville Funeral Home, 303 Center Avenue South, with burial to follow at Franklin Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
