Marlene Stone

Marlene Stone, 82, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at Bright Kavanagh Hospice House. She was born in New Virginia, Iowa on June 7, 1932 to John and Nora (Rundall) McIntosh.

Marlene was assistant to the administrator of Des Moines General Hospital (DMGH) for many years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and was a charter member of the Ankeny Golf and Country Club. She was an active member of the American Contract Bridge League.

Marlene enjoyed playing golf with her husband, Bill, and their many friends both in Iowa and Carlsbad, NM, their winter home. She loved playing bridge with long-time friends in Des Moines and Ankeny, as well as at the Carlsbad Duplicate Bridge Club.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, George Rundall McIntosh. She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bill Stone Sr.; children Bill (Kathy) Stone Jr. and Heidi (Bruce) Tjaden Sr.; six grandchildren; Will(Angela) Stone III, Matthew Stone, Stephanie Stone, Bruce (Naomi) Tjaden Jr., Amanda Tjaden and Anne Tjaden. She is also survived by her cousin, Shirley Oglesbee; and a host of extended family and beloved friends.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines. Visitation with family will begin one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Hospice of Central Iowa (HCI Care Service) Bright Kavanagh House, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or a charity of the donor’s choice.
