Frances Leona Doyle

Frances Leona Doyle, 88, of West Des Moines, surrounded by her loving family, went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Visitation will be Saturday, December 27, 2014 from 9 to 10 am followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church with Father Mark Neal officiating. Graveside services will follow at Waukee Cemetery.

Born in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada on January 24, 1926 to Thomas and Iris Abraham, Frances married C. Kirby Doyle on August 20, 1949 in Brantford, Ontario.

Fran delighted in life’s simple pleasures. She cherished her family, lifelong friendships, and her Florida snowbird friends equally. Most recently her life was enriched by the caring staff and her resident friends at the Edgewater community in West Des Moines.

Fran’s trademarks were her cheerful disposition, welcoming smile, a calming presence, and kind words to those around her. Many benefited from her gentle spirit and compassion for others.

Left to carry on her legacy, her daughter, Mary (Kirby) Phillips; sons, Graeme (Mary), Gregory (Karen), Leo (Maria) and Paul (Joan) Doyle; 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Other surviving family members are her sisters, Dorothy, Kaye, Beth, Carole, Mary Lou; sisters-in-law, Pat, Kathleen, Frances and her “American sister” Eleanor Haun. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, George; her husband, Kirby; and grandchild, Samuel Doyle; and great-grandchild, Kyra Savage.
