Service Details

Clayton Lewis Fallis, 76, passed away at his home in Ankeny on December 11, 2014.

Clayton, also known as Clay to his friends and family, was born February 15, 1938 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Carl and Gladys Fallis. He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1956 and then enlisted with the Marine Corps. He was a member of M Company 3dBN 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division where he was ranked Corporal. After his two year service to the Marine Corps, he went on to make his career as a manager and salesman for Bach Sales Center, TV and appliance store. He remained there until his retirement in 2000.

Clay married the love of his life, Rosalie Anderson, on December 18, 1957. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary this month. Clay was a dedicated family man who loved his wife, children, grandkids, and his many, many friends.

After his retirement in 2000, Clay enjoyed doing the things he loved to do. You could usually find him at his daughters place, helping her with her horse boarding business, helping his son at his place, or tinkering in his garage fixing sewing machines for clients who would contact him.

Clay had a passion for supporting his kids and grandkids. He loved traveling in the summer to countless rodeos with his daughter and grandson to watch them compete. Over the years he grew very close to the “Rodeo Family” which made him enjoy watching all the events with numerous contestants that he had come to know and love.

His other passion was Hunting and Fishing. Clay had an annual Colorado hunting trip that he organized and went on for over 40 plus years each fall. He started this trip in his 20’s with his childhood buddies and had passed the tradition on to 3 generations thru the years which is pretty amazing.

Clay will be missed dearly by his family and very, very long list of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 2 brothers, Bob and Willard, his infant daughter, and his infant granddaughter, Josie Rae Dittmer.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rose; son, Ron (Sandy) Fallis; daughter, Vicki (Scott) Dittmer; grandchildren, Samantha Fallis, Jordan Fallis, Briar, Chase and Dawson Dittmer, and Jaden and Sierra Phipps.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service and brief time of sharing beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Memorial contributions in memory of Clay may be made to UnityPoint Hospice Care of Iowa. Their tender loving care during his journey was very much appreciated by Clay’s family and friends.
