Ethel Cummings

Ethel Cummings, 85, of Pleasant Hill, IA. Formerly of Des Moines, IA passed away in her sleep on Thursday, December 11, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow the service at Elm Grove Cemetery. Family will greet visitors on Sunday, December 14th at the funeral home from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Ethel was born on October 13, 1929 to William and Jessie (Clark) Stewart in Polk County, IA. Ethel attended Lincoln High School and A.I.B. College. She worked at Cobbs Manufacturing, McIntyre Frontier U-Haul and Purolator Courier as a truck driver. Ethel loved to sew, travel and work in her flower garden.

In her first marriage there were five children; Terry Lee Jennings, Thomas Lee Jennings Sr., Jean Ann Hilsabeck, Jane Ann Jennings and Gary Lee Jennings.

In 1961, she married Buck “Ralph” McIntyre, and then spent 10 years alone before marrying James “Jim” Cummings of Knoxville, IA.

Ethel is survived by her children, Terry, Tom and Jean (Dave); seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Gary; daughter, Jane Ann; 1st husband, Max Jennings, 2nd husband, Ralph McIntyre and 3rd husband, James Cummings.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Ethel’s family.
