Beverly Mackie

If you had the privilege of meeting Beverly Mackie, you know she was one of a kind. Strong willed and mindful, she was an amazing wife, mother and friend. On Tuesday, December 9th, Beverly Ann Mackie peacefully passed away in the hospital due to complications from a recent fall at her home.

Beverly was born October 12, 1932 and was a life-long resident of Des Moines. She considered herself a proud Iowan. She is remembered in death by her loving husband Robert, her son Michael as well as her younger siblings Tom Bryan (Barbara) and Karen Watkins (Larry).

Bev spent years in accounting and was the ultimate problem solver in and out of the office. An avid gardener, she loved planting flowers and spending time outside. Indoors, you could often find her in the kitchen perfecting the ultimate recipe.

Her true joy and happiness came from her husband and son. Beverly and Robert were married for nearly 60 years. After 15 years of marriage, son Michael arrived and completed the family. A proud mother, Bev enjoyed seeing her son excel in his TV career. She and Bob spent much of their later years traveling and sightseeing – visiting many close relatives across the pond in England.

Her warm, yet no-nonsense style often came in handy and was one of her many admired qualities. She will be forever remembered for her razor sharp wit, compassion and giving spirit. Visitation will be this Saturday, December 13th between 3 and 6 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home (Downtown).
