Ruth Yauk

Ruth Madeline Yauk, 92, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at her home in Des Moines.

Ruth was born November 3, 1922 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of William and Florence (Gray) Perkins. She was a graduate of East High School, Class of 1940. Ruth married Charles Yauk on May 25, 1946 in Des Moines and they were blessed with 66 years together. As a younger person, Ruth worked as the Confidential Secretary to Harold Hughes when he served as governor and also when he served in the U.S. Senate. She retired in 1976.

Ruth was a talented oil painter, showing her work in many exhibits in Port Isabell, TX where she and her husband wintered. She liked reading, was an avid NBA fan, and enjoyed spending time with her dog, Maynard.

Ruth is survived by her sons, Dennis J. Yauk and Steven C. (Linda) Yauk, granddaughter, Stephanie (Paul) Wilber, great-granddaughters, Alayna and Meredith Wilber, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her siblings, James Hibbs, Bernard Hibbs, Allen Hibbs, Opal Mapes and Donna Topp.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to UnityPoint Home Hospice.
