Donn W. Schaff, 83, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center of a Stroke. He was born June 9, 1924 in Des Moines, Iowa. Donn served his country during WWII in the Army Air Corp., until his honorable discharge.
Donn retired from Mid-American Energy Company. He enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to music and tending his flowers and yard. He had multiple feeders for his birds and other creatures.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary (Williams) Schaff, his children: Janet (Gordon) Woolsey of Des Moines, Theresa (James) Sweat of Florida, Karen (Ray) Petrey of South Carolina, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a sister, Shirley Voumard of Des Moines, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2007 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, Iowa, with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.

The one thing I remember most about Donn would have to be his mischievous grin and that twinkle in his eyes whenever he was telling a joke or playing a prank on someone. He did so enjoy his family get togethers and I am glad that I got to be a part of some of them in recent years. Whenever I was in town to visit his daughter Jan it went without saying that I would also be stopping by to visit with Donn and Mary. Donn would always delight in showing me around the house and the yard to point out some new improvement or additon he recently had done.
My deepest sympathies go out to all the family for their sudden loss.
