Service Details
Shirley Jean Elbert, 68, passed away December 8, 2014. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 15, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines with visitation the night prior from 5 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.
Shirley was born August 4, 1946 in Richmond, MO to Mildred (Williams) and Anthony Clausi. She graduated from North High School and later met her soul mate, John Elbert. The couple shared much together, including road trips to Oregon and the western states, shooting, fishing, outings to casinos, and spending time with family and friends. Shirley was a friend to everyone and was always ready with a hug.
She will be greatly missed by her husband, John; daughters, Angela (Matt) Buettner and Toni (Tim) Larsen; grandchildren, Emily and Jonathan Buettner, Kayla, Dylan and Josh Larsen; great-granddaughter, Molly Morris; siblings, Joe and Jerry Clausi, Sherry Earlywine; and step-father, Robert Suker.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Shirley was an amazing lady.We have so many good memories growing up. I was lucky enough to see her last May when she and John and Della, visited us in Phoenix. She was beautiful , loving, caring, and her laugh was infectious!! After 50 yrs of friendship with Della and Lake, I called them the "Golden Girls" Shirley was of course Betty White. R.I.P. She loved John and her family with all her heart. She will always be watching over all of you. You can count on that.

John, Angie and Toni. You were like my second family growing up. Many of my fondest childhood memories include the Elbert family. I cannot express how much you mean to me. Shirley was not only a friend of 50 years, she was like my sister. We shared so many memories, good times and bad. We were always there for each other. I love her family so much and grieve for them. Along with Della,, we were the golden girls. I was so lucky to have her in my life.

To John, Toni, Angie, I had the honor of meaning Shirley and everytime I did she would always hug me. She was a very wonderful and kind person.Shirley will always be loved and missed.I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

We all will miss Shirley. She was a beautiful lady inside and out. I can remember all the happy times we all had together growing up. My heart is so sad for the loss her family and friends are feeling. Shirley is at peace now. God Bless.

I didn't get the chance to know Shirley very well, but what I did know was that she was very sweet and caring. Reading her memorial, I see she went to the same High School that I did. She will be missed by all. John, you know that I feel your pain. I have been praying for you and your family. May God lift you up and give you strength and peace.
