Mary Jo Barnes

Mary Josephine Barnes died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 6, 2014. Mary Jo was born on February 3, 1939 to Walter and Nettie (Fetrow) Ratcliffe in Smith County, Kansas.


Mary Jo was a long time member of Restored Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints. She made Des Moines her home since 1962.

Mary Jo is survived by her children, Rex Dupea, Cheryl Dupea, Monte (Echo) Dupea, Theodore Henning and Lori (Brent) Griffin; niece, Carol (Joe) Davis; nephew, Roy (Sherry) Ratcliffe; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry Diekhuis; son, Walter Dupea; and brothers, Gordon, Eldon, Keith and Gerald Ratcliffe.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
