Service Details

William Roy Fulton, 86, passed away December 5, 2014. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 9, 1024 at 11:00 a.m. at the West Des Moines Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Bill was born October 18, 1928 to Alvin and Edith (Tyrell) Fulton in Zion, Iowa. After graduation and attending college, he was called to serve his country in the U.S. Army. While serving, Bill worked as a tank mechanic and paratrooper and was known as the “jumping mechanic”. He had hobbies which included - camping, golfing, and spending time with family. Bill was a passionate and skilled woodworker. He made many items for family and friends including tables and a hutch to name a few.

Bill was a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church and spent many happy hours with his church family. He was an active volunteer in the church and used his many talents, cooking spaghetti dinners, mowing the grounds, working with the Chore Core, or wherever he was needed.

Bill worked for the Des Moines Register and Tribune and was known for his motivational meetings with the paperboys. He worked for many years at Cantex Industries as a credit manager. After leaving A.M.F. Lawn and Garden, Bill and Maxine were well-known as “Winter Texans” for many years.

William is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine, to this union their two children, daughter, Joni (Ron) McRoberts and son, Craig (Lynn) Fulton; his brother, Robert Fulton; his grandchildren, Billy Fulton, Matt Fulton, Kristen McRoberts, Brian McRoberts, Mike Fulton and Nick Fulton; and great-grandchildren, Caleb, Gavin, Benjamin, Evelynn, Lila and Kennedy.

Bill was preceded by his parents, Alvin and Edith Fulton; son, Gary; sister, Beatrice Edwards; and brothers, Lester, Alva and Carl.

The family would like to thank the staff at ManorCare and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate care for Bill.
