December 04, 2014
Harold Byron Dymond, 90, born June 17, 1924 at the family homestead and passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Spurgeon Manor in Dallas Center, Iowa. Survivors include his daughter Becky Dunn, son Steve Dymond, grandchildren Jason Dunn (Stuart Alexander), Pam James (Todd), Dani Steenhoek (Jay) and Rowdy Dymond (Jennifer), eight great-grandchildren, sisters Hazel Liston and Shirley Webber and a host of other family and friends. Harold joins his parents Otis and Pearl Dymond, wife Marie, son Jim Dymond and daughter-in-law, Guyla Jean Dymond, who precede him in death.
Harold was an Army Veteran of WWII and a lifelong farmer. He was a member of First Christian Church and the American Legion, both located in Adel, Iowa. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Sunday, December 14, 2014 at First Christian Church, 218 N 9th St, Adel, Iowa. There will be a time of fellowship at the church following the service.
Harold Dymond was a farmer- one of the last of his ilk. He was born on the land that has remained in the Dymond family for over 100 years and that his son Steve, still farms today. His passion for farming and his determination to be a good steward of that land was a constant and unrelenting theme throughout his life. He learned the basics form his father, Otis, and honed those skills over the next 60 odd years. During WWII, Harold, ignored his farming deferment and enlisted in the Army. His service was of the type of which he rarely spoke. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. On his return from the war he met and married Marie Fuqua, a city girl who grew up in Valley Junction, and the two remained a team for the next 58 years until her death in 2004.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family to be distributed to Harold’s favorite charities at a later date.

Steve and family: In October 1993, Harold stopped by the acreage we had just moved to on J Avenue to say hello and in the end volunteered to bring his bobcat over to help us clean up the barn so we could haul our horses over. What a kind and generous and hardworking man he was. While we didn't see him or Marie frequently, we always thought very fondly of both of them and loved their outlook and wit. Thinking of you in your time of loss and sending our sympathies. Pam Duffy and Mickey Carlson
