Ginger Lee Scherer, 64, of Altoona, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on December 1, 2014 with her family by her side.

She was born May 10, 1950 in Paullina, Iowa to Roy and Darlene (Hollister) Warnke. She married James Edward Scherer on August 9, 1969 and they shared 45 years of marriage.

A 1968 graduate of Paullina High School and attended Northwest Iowa Vocational School in Sheldon, Iowa. Ginger lived on the family farm and worked at several professions including childcare, Walmart Pharmacy as a pharmacy associate, Fareway, Smart Industries and retired from Altoona 8th Street Child Care in 2010. She also taught Sunday school at the First Christian Church in Eldon, IA

Ginger enjoyed cooking, traveling, and treasured time with her family.

Surviving are her husband, James; two daughters, Wendy (Jeffrey) Walker of Des Moines, Debby (David) Dwight of Ottumwa; one son, Phillip (fiancé, Stacey Ellerman) Scherer of Liberty, Missouri; two grand-daughters, Renee Stivers, Lexy Dwight; two grandson, Mason Dwight, Devin Walker; one great-granddaughter, LeAyrah
.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Deveda Dirkson.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2014 at the funeral home with burial to follow at Iowa Veterans Cemetery.
