Lonnie Frakes, of Des Moines, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 1, 2014. Lonnie was born in Des Moines to Maymie (Howard) and Melvin Frakes on April 19, 1947.

Lonnie proudly served his country in the United States Army. He spent 39+ years of his career at Brown NationaLease as a diesel mechanic. Lonnie enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR, camping, traveling (especially to Vegas) but most of all spending time with his family. He was quite the jokester and had a great sense of humor. Recently on vacation he was able to put his foot in the ocean for the first time in Corpus Christi, TX.

Lonnie leaves behind his loving wife, Joyce; children, Todd (Tina), Steve (Laura), Tommy (Jen) and Jennifer; eight grandchildren; siblings, Ronnie, John, Ed and Marie; and other loving family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Katerra and brother in-law, Jimmy Taylor.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 5, 2014 at First Assembly of God Church, 2725 Merle Hay Road. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Garden Cemetery. Family will greet visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Due to the road construction on SW 9th Street, the entrance to the funeral home is off of Fleur or SW 14th Street to Kenyon heading east.
