Ted Newell

Ted Newell, 72, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014 from complications of heart and diabetes. He was born January 22, 1942 to Josephene (Davidson) Newell and Melvin Newell. He graduated from Tech High and owned and operated Newell Auto Body across from the fairgrounds. He managed Newell Enterprises contracting with the city of Des Moines boarding up houses and provided a statewide courier service delivering samples to labs. Ted provided an escort service by driving the pilot car, traveling across the country delivering wind turbine parts.

Ted enjoyed working with cars and motorcycles. He liked drag racing and stock cars as well as traveling to many places, such as Sturgis. He had visited 49 states as well as Canada and Mexico. Other loves were fishing, visiting with people, playing cards and going to casinos. His biggest jackpot was spending time with his family and friends.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joseph (baby) and Tim. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Anne; children, Teresa Shaffer (John Ryan), Jeff Newell, and Jennifer Newell; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A special thanks to our dear friend, Jean Tillotson without whom the last months would have been unbearable.

There will be a celebration of life from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a time for sharing at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines.
