Service Details
Charles L. Patrick, 87, passed away Friday, November 28, 2014 at Fleur Heights Care Center. He was born March 19, 1927 to Leman and Lucindia Patrick in Weldon, Iowa.
After graduating High School in Osceola, Charles joined the Army and served in Germany during WWII. Charles worked for Iowa Resources, Inc., from which he retired after more than 30 years of loyal service. He married his first wife Esther and together they had a daughter, Ellen. Esther passed away in 1974, and he then married Ione Ullestad on April 2, 1977, with whom he shared 37 happy years.
Charles was a member of Berean Assembly of God. He served on the Missions Committee for many years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ione; daughter, Ellen L. (Gino) Marchette-Merlot; nieces, Mary Lane and Sue Grimm; and many relatives and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by parents; first wife, Esther; brothers, George, Jr. and Joe Patrick; and sister, Maude Josephine.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 2, 2014, at Berean Assembly of God, 5299 East University Ave., Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, December 1, 2014, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow services at Maple Hill Cemetery in Osceola.
Memorial Contributions may be directed to the church for Missions in loving memory of Charles.

Charlie, you will be greatly missed. We couldn't have asked for better neighbors. I enjoyed learning from you and will never forget all your helpful tips... from how to get rid of the nasty weeds for good to changing the oil in the cars. Having you and Ione as neighbors has been a blessing. Thank you for always being there for us. My prayers go out to Ione and family at this difficult time. Rest in Peace my friend... until we meet again. missing you.

Charlie you met so much to us. We will miss you terribly. From the minute we moved in next door until we moved out 3 kids and 12 years later you were always there for us. We could never thank you enough. We were a young couple who just got married who moved in. We didn't know much about yard work or fixing things. We hardly ever had the tools we needed. You had everything and more! You helped us fix things, helped us with our yard and encouraged us to keep working hard. You would always say, "It's looking good!" We would actually do things to make you proud of us! I loved looking out the window watching you mow the lawn in your safari hat! I miss that! We both looked up to you. You were a great role model. You and Ione always reached out to us and invited us to your church. I'm glad we went to the Christmas play that time, so we could spend time with you. You both worked so hard every year making Christmas candy for us and others. We looked forward to that every year! I'm so sorry we didn't get over to see you sooner. We thought of you and Ione often. We were determined to get over there to see you. Time flew by and we didn't get that chance like we wanted. You were awesome Charlie! We will see you again someday in heaven. Thank you so much for all that you did for us and taught us. No neighbor will ever match up to you. God put you in our life for a reason. We love you Charlie and will never forget you!

Charlie was a second dad for me, a special friend and a brother in Christ. He will be greatly missed but we shall see him again one day. I will never forget his great smile and loving heart. My how he did love to tease me.

We are so sorry to hear of Charlie's passing. He had such a jovial spirit with an easy laugh. We enjoyed his presence and he will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Ione and family at this difficult time. You can take comfort that you know where he is and who he is with.
