Sean "Opie" Christman, 37, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.
He was born October 4, 1977 in Des Moines. Sean served in the Army Reserves for five years. He was a security guard at Wells Fargo. Sean was a 1st degree blackbelt in taekwondo.
Sean is survived by his parents, Leonard and Christi Christman; siblings, Stephen (Jannene) Christman and Sarah (Sid) Akin; two nieces, one nephew; grandfather, R. Wayne Ellis; and his longtime companion, Danielle, their daughter and her son.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at Lighthouse Community Church, 7705 Indianola Avenue with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Lighthouse Community Church for the family.

I was in the same dorm as Opie, and simply put I loved him like a brother. He made me laugh so many times, and made others smile as well. I recently renewed our friendship last year through Facebook. But since I now live in Alaska, I was unable to see him, and quite frankly that is a regret that I will have to carry for the rest of my life. Rest in peace my DJCC brother. I will miss you very much!

I met Opie at Denison Job Corp and Sean was an awesome person with a heart of gold, he would always make me laugh when I was feeling down. May you rest in peace buddy, and fly with the Angels. As you walk to the gates of Heaven and you watch down on all always remember you will be sadly missed but never forgotten. My prayers and thoughts to his family at this time..

I lived on the same dorm as Opie at Job Corps. Although I have not seen him in nearly 20 years I have many fond memories of our time spent together while we were there. Sean always had the ability to make you laugh, and was willing to lend an ear anytime you needed it. He was a good young man when I knew him. My condolences to the family as I am very sorry for your loss. RIP Opie...

I first became acquainted with Sean at the Arena and was very impressed with how he was in control of the command center. He seemed to be going ten directions at once, but he had it all under control. He will be missed and was saddened to hear of his passing.

I worked under Sean's supervision for five years at the Arena, and the one thing I admired about him is that he lived his life with no restrictions; he marched to his own drum. I am deeply sorry for your loss and pray for healing of your hearts.
