Richard was born April 15, 1928 in Des Moines to Glenn and Rose Walker. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1946. He served in the United States Marine Corp. Richard enjoyed working in the photo department at Meredith Printing with his many friends, retiring after 40+ years. While there, he met and married Dorothy Denman and together they raised two boys on the south side of Des Moines.

Richard was a skilled and avid photographer and this was reflected in the many wonderful photos he captured during his lifetime. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling, camping, nice cars, and re-doing anything anyone else did, so it would be done correctly.

His favorite activities included being with grandkids, throwing elaborate parties with friends, listening to music, dancing with his wife, and having lunch with his fellow retirees at Meredith. He also loved driving the school bus for Grace Baptist Church Vacation Bible School and mowing the church lawn.

Richard is survived by his two sons, Dennis and Doug (Michelle) Walker; two grandchildren, Adam (Tara) Walker and Stephanie (Mark Koontz); great-granddaughter, Rayne Alexandra Koontz; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; his parents; and his brothers, Jack and Jim.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
