Elner McGrean

Elner McGrean, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, November 6, 2014 with her husband and her children by her side.

Elner was born October 16, 1926 to Earl and Ida May Brown. She is one of 13 siblings and twin to Elmer. At age 21, she married Haskill Gibson and to this union, seven children were born. She later met and married Raymond “Hunk” McGrean. She was a homemaker and wife and took great pride in her family. She enjoyed watching greyhound dog racing and horse racing. Elner had a talent for crocheting and sewing and played guitar and sang at church.

Elner is survived by her husband of 43 years, Hunk McGrean; children, Georgeann Brown, Phyllis Harrison, Nancy Herndon (Tom), Viola Hardy, David Gibson (Tami), Tim Gibson (Jean Clark), and Jeanie Slabaugh (Bob); 23 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, also at the funeral home, with burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
