George Richard Shultice was born on September 2, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of George and Marguerite Shultice.

Richard was baptized in the old Bondurant Congregational Church and later joined the Christian Church which met in the parsonage. He was raised on his family’s farm in rural Bondurant where he farmed with his dad during World War II. After the war, he attended Iowa State University where he graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree. He then joined the United States Air Force and served as a Major. Richard married Elberta Deal on December 21, 1957, and moved back to his father’s farm.

Richard worked part time as an assessor for many years. He also taught math and science in Des Moines and at DMACC, and he ended his career as a federal meat inspector.

Richard was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Air Force Regime, Des Moines Pioneer Club, American Legion, Bethany Reformed Church, and the Acacia Fraternity.

Richard is survived by his children, Steve Shultice and Pamela Shultice (Anderson); grandchildren, Jake Knutson, Sydney Anderson, Stephanie Shultice, and Kaitlin Shultice; as well as five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Bethany Reformed Church, 720 NE 52nd Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa, with funeral service to follow. Burial will be held at Bondurant Cemetery.
