Linda Joyce Albee, 65, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after a courageous battle with leukemia.
She was born May 5, 1949 in Washington, D.C. to L. Patrick and Betty Jean (Davis) Sloan. At a young age, the family moved to Iowa where Linda graduated from Ankeny High School in 1968. She later moved to Des Moines where she married the late James Cunningham on August 14, 1981 and had five beautiful children.
She went on to get her Associates Degree in Graphic Design which she used to do freelance work following school. During this time, she met the love of her life, P. David Albee. They were married May 17, 1996 in Des Moines. Over the last 18 years, Linda was an integral staff member of Des Moines Public Schools Community Education Department.
Linda had many passions in life. She spent her free time enjoying her gardens, reading, drawing, and doing cross-stitch. Above all, Linda loved spending time with her family, in particular her grandchildren, Asher and Ruby, whom she cherished. Linda will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Linda is survived by her loving husband, P. David Albee; children, Sean-Patrick, Jamie, Caitlin (Carl Schossow), and Tyler (T.J.) Cunningham; grandchildren, Asher and Ruby Schossow; brother, Larry (Cindy) Sloan; step-father, Howard R. Davis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelsey R. Cunningham; mother, Betty Jean Davis; and father, Lawrence Patrick Sloan.
A visitation will be held at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon St., Des Moines, on Friday, October 17, 2014 from 5 to 7 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., also at the funeral home, followed by a private burial.
Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.

Linda was a talented artist and a hard working individual. Sadly, we had little in common, but our family.
Emotions run high and grieving is a natural occurrence. We each process the event in our own way. I hope her family finds the strength to get through these difficult times with grace and compassion.
Your prayers and good wishes to her grieving family will be a great comfort to them.

Linda, I only knew you briefly, but know your daughters well. You will be greatly missed by all, but I know that Asher and Ruby will have the best angel watching over them always. My sincere sympathy goes out to the family.

My sincere feelings of sympathy to David and the family. I had the pleasure of working with Linda for ten years. She was a delight that could brighten your day and a great colleague. We will all miss her, but were lucky to have known her.
