Helen Meyers-Bywaters, 73, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. She was born June 26, 1941 to Lawrence and LaVaughn Strickler in Des Moines, Iowa.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil Slick; children, Rick Mart, Pamella Sue (Todd) Wolfe, Jim (Carolyn) Mart and Kristin (Brian) McKeever; grandchildren, Rebecca, Joel, Leah, Cody, Eva, Alec, Bryce, Justin and Tyler; nephew, Doug (Mary) Strickler; nieces, Deb Maeder and Diane Jordening; and sister-in-law, Nancy Strickler.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Strickler; and previous husband, Nick Meyers.
Funeral Services will be held, 9:00 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. A gathering will be held at the funeral home prior to burial at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Glioblastoma/American Brain Tumor Association in loving memory of Helen.

Prayers to you all in your time of loss. Your mother was an amazing and wonderful woman who will hold a special place in my heart. She was a very caring and lovely woman and to call her my friend is an honor. She is now is pain free and able to watch over us all. Hugs to you all

Dear Virgil & Family:
On behalf of the North High Class of 1959, I wish to convey our most sincere condolences at the recent passing of your loving wife Helen. I knew Helen in both Junior High at Irving and at North. Helen was a quiet classmate who always had a smile on her face and a kind word for others. Sorry we have drifted away since high school as she was a wonderful person. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you and Rick, Pamela, Jim, Kristin and the rest of your family.
