Melissa Hendricks

Melissa Joy Hendricks passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 in her home, after a courageous 16 month battle against brain cancer.
Melissa was born March 7, 1963 to proud parents Magee and Marilyn Baustian. She spent her childhood growing up on the family farm south of Brooklyn. Melissa graduated from BGM High School in 1981, valedictorian of her class. She attended AIB in Des Moines and graduated with her degree. Melissa first worked at Moehl Millwork and then the Iowa Credit Union League in 1986.
On September 7, 1985, Melissa married John Hendricks. She was blessed with a daughter and then a son. John and Missy moved to Lincoln, NE where she worked for the Nebraska Bankers Association. She returned to the Iowa Credit Union League in 1997 and settled in Waukee, IA. While working for the ICUL, she became Executive Secretary to the President.
Melissa was also involved in EWI (Executive Women International) where she served many roles including a one year tenure as President of the Des Moines chapter. She was also a member of Waukee United Methodist Church and attended regularly. Melissa enjoyed spending time with her family at Lake Red Rock, watching NASCAR, and college sports. She also enjoyed watching her kids participate in many sports including soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, and track. She will be greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
Melissa is survived by her husband John, daughter Meredith, and son Colton all of Waukee; parents Magee and Marilyn (Gwin) Baustian; sister Melinda Showalter (Gary); brothers Bruce (Marlene), and Brian Baustian all of Brooklyn, and Brent (Hillary) Baustian of Walford; brother-in-law Mike Hendricks (Stacie); sister-in-law Robyn Petersen (Dan); mother-in-law Micki Hendricks all of Des Moines, and father-in-law John Hendricks (Bev) of Jackson, Michigan; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and loving friends of the Des Moines and Brooklyn areas. Melissa was preceded in death by her grandparents, Carl and Edna Baustian and Arnold and Marie Gwin.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests all memorial contributions be made to the family. Visitation will be Sunday, September 9th, 4-8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. Service will be held Monday, September 10 at 10:30 a.m., with lunch following at Waukee United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held in Guernsey, Iowa at the Guernsey Cemetery, 2:30 p.m., with coffee at Guernsey United Methodist Church following.

Dear John,
My deepist condolences to you and the kids. My heart goes out to all of you. I know this is a very difficult time, but please know there are alot of us out here thinking about all of you. I know how difficult it is to lose someone you love so deeply. Please take comfort that you surrounded Missy with love and support during this time, the kind we all hope we have when our time comes.
