Service Details
Gladys E. Mars, 90, went to be with the Lord on September 4, 2014. Services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 12:00 pm at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will follow the service at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
Gladys was born on December 22, 1923 in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Watertown High School and attended Northwestern College. She married Don E. Mars in 1946. Gladys was a secretary for the Iowa National Guard for 22 years until her retirement in 1988.
Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, Lucia (Cook) and William Borg, her husband, Don; daughter-in-law, Jackie Mars; and granddaughter, Holly Mars. She is survived by her children, Bill (Charleen), Michael (Nancy), James (Susan), and Mary Mars; sister, Mary Schoeppler; grandchildren, Dustin (Annie), Missy (Travis), Josh (Jackie), Seth, Sarah (Chris), Ben, and Chris (Zoe); twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

I have so many memories of all the years I worked with Gladys at the Information Booth at First Federated. She was always an inspiration to me. She was truly a Godly woman. My heart goes out to all her family. You had a wonderful mother and grandmother.

Please accept my sympathy. I have very fond memories of Gladys, especially from the days in Polk City. I can still see (and hear!) her at the piano! God's blessings to you all.
