Thomas "Tom" McKinney

Thomas Ray McKinney, 79, of Des Moines, Iowa, formerly of Fayetteville, West Virginia and Norfolk, Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Monday, September 1, 2014 at Fountain West Health Center in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Tom was born September 21, 1934 in Page, West Virginia to Luke and Daisy McKinney. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Tom was a retired auto diesel mechanic and truck and bus driver.

Tom is survived by his loving daughters, Janet (John) Frost of Des Moines, Iowa, Rita Thompson of South Carolina and Lisa (Chris) Kolby of North Carolina; grandchildren, Jolene (Keith) Meeks, Joshlynn Frost, Johnell Frost, Daniel Thompson, Keira, Samantha and Justin Kolby; great-grandchildren, Quinton, Preston, Jordan, Jakob, Kailey and Keith III; sister, Goldie Phipps; his former wife and mother of Janet and Rita, Jo Ann (Shelton) Arnold; and a host of extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bessie Mae Patrick; brother, Edward McKinney; and his former wife and mother of Lisa, Mary Sue (Dye) McKinney.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at High Lawn Funeral Home, 1435 Main St. E, Oak Hill, W.V., 25901 followed by burial at High Lawn Cemetery in Oak Hill, West Virginia. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
