David Newman

David Clayton Newman, 93, died, Monday September 1, 2014 at Monroe County Care Center in Albia, Iowa. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW, Altoona with burial at Mitchellville Cemetery in Mitchellville. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the funeral on Saturday.

David was born February 12, 1921 in Mitchellville, Iowa to Clayton and Odessa (Gray) Newman. He worked for United Airlines where he was a senior station agent for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church and the International Toast Masters; he also enjoyed being a Parliamentarian and a court mediator.

David is survived by his wife of seventy years, Lillian Newman; children, Brian (Cathy) Newman of Mauertown, VA, Karen (Dennis) Brown of Ottumwa, Iowa, Ray Newman of Colorado; grandchildren, James, Aaron, Jenny, Reta, Christopher, Elizabeth, Josh and Jessica; 14 great-grandchildren and his sister, Marjorie (Harold) Magg. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Jean Newman and Gretchen Rice; and brothers, Gilbert and Burton Newman.
