Mr. Moberly was my math teacher at Harding Jr. High, and while I was not one of his best students, he was a man who never forgot who you were, I would run into him from time to time over the years, at Western Auto, Sears and lastly at the DSM Airport were I worked at the time, and he always remembered who I was and always had a kind word! You will be deeply missed by many Sir! To his Family, I am so sorry for your loss of the Outstanding Man!

Mr. Moberly was my math teacher at Amos Hiatt Junior High School.
After earning my teaching certificate I became a teacher in the Des Moines Public Schools and eventually an elementary administrator. As a young father he helped me select a bike for my daughter while working at Montgomery Wards in the Park Fair Shopping Center.
Still later after retiring from the DMPS I began teaching at ISU. Mr. Moberly and I teamed and taught together in a short lived program encouraging minorities to become teachers in Des Moines. Both our jaws dropped when we walked in and introduced ourselves to our students.
My last encounter with Mr. Moberly was at Meredith Middle School. He was there to substitute and I was to observe a student teacher. Neither of us had the combination to enter the building so we walked around the building and entered through the cafeteria workers door.
He always had time for an "old" student. He was inspirational.
God bless.

I remember Dick as a member of a Camp Fire committee. He was special because of his two daughters and how active they were in Camp Fire and at Camp Hantesa. He was so special to all of us. I know he will be missed by everyone who knew him. If Mo and Sue have time during the time they are celebrating Dick's life I would love to see them at my home. I am not able to attend the funeral because of being in a wheel chair. Best to all of you during this time.

Mr. Moberly was a wonderful, kind hearted man. He used to come into the office after he retired and always asked me for a list of teachers and what room they were in. I knew he missed being there. When I first started working there, he was a big help to me when I was learning how to run a computer. He loved what he was doing; one could always tell. He will be greatly missed as it is evident in these messages. He will always be with you, as he will live on within your heart.

We always had so much fun when Mr.Moberly was our substitute at North High. It didn't matter what subject it was, it was always the best day when Mr.Moberly subbed. We loved how he always wear his dress pant so high because it reminded us of our grandfathers. He wasn't just a teacher, but also a fun & embarassing grandfather we adored so much. Thanks for everything! You will be missed!

Mr. Moberly did his best to teach me geometry. LOL im sorry go say it just was not my thing, no matter how hard he tried. (more of an algebra girl) funny, later in life I substitute taught Geometry and I remember reflecting back to his lessons. When I think back to high school he is one of the few teachers who's name I remember. I also remember interviewing him for the school newspaper for teachers profile. He had so much fun making me work for it. He made me pre plan all my questions and research before I was able to finally interview. He wouldnt just give me the article he said, I had to work for it. When we finally sat down for the interview he smiled a huge smile when I pulled out a notebook full of questions and notes. :-) Mr. Moberly, You were a rare gem, who gave Des Moines students an amazing gift, you as a Educator. Thank you, you will be missed.

A person rarely meets such a nice man as Mr. Moberly. I knew Mr. Moberly from North High School where he was a sub often. He always had a smile and he even did magic tricks for us. He was a great man and I, among many others will miss him.

What a pleasure it was to work side by side with a man who cared so much about his students. I picture him with that sideways grin of his, a glint of mischief in his eye with a slight nod of his head.... oh and that chuckle, when he got going it was hard for him to stop, and it always ended with him shaking his head sideways. When he shook his finger you knew you needed to be listening. I just know he is using his charm, wit and winning ways with all the angels in heaven.
