Louis Cutwright, 83 died at Genesis Senior Living Center on September 3, 2007. Louis was born on March 14, 1924 in Camden, Arkansas, the second of three children. Louis grew up around Stamps, Arkansas raised by his uncle, Bob on the farm. Louis met Mattie Mae Johnson in 1941 in Stamps, Arkansas and they were married on February 1, 1942.
Louis had several talents starting with logging for Southern Craft Paper Mill and welding for the military, which transferred Louis and family to Vancouver Washington, to weld for Kaiser Ship builders.
Louis and family traveled by train to Des Moines for family and further job opportunity. Des Moines is where Louis and Mattie raised their family, Opal, Louis Jr., Charles, JoAnn, Steven, Shirley, nephews, Bobby and Larry and foster child, Harmon Whitfield. Louis worked in Des Moines for Swift and Company until he started his own successful business of painting and decorating.
Above all Louis was devoted to his wife and children. Louis loved outdoor activities, fishing and hunting. His love of travel allowed him to enjoy his love of fishing with his wife of 65 years.
Louis was baptized as one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in 2001. He loved the decision he made to serve Jehovah.
Louis and Mattie enjoyed a full and happy life together, grateful for family and friends.
Louis is survived by his faithful wife, Mattie, his children, Opal and Walter Graves of Omaha Nebraska; Louis Jr. and Judi of Waterloo; Charles and Ruth of Tennessee; JoAnn and John of Spring, Texas; his sister, Arletha Mitchell of California; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.
Louis was preceded in death by his children, Steven and Shirley; and brother, George.
The family acknowledges with sincere gratitude all gestures of sympathy and acts of thoughtful concern of the many friends and family during the darkest moments of our sorrow in the death of our beloved, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, “Louis.”
