Service Details
Doris Irene Labertew, 91, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 10, 2014. Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Wednesday, August 13 at 10:00 a.m. with visitation on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Indianola.
Doris was born on June 1, 1923 in High Bridge, IA to Warren and Opal (Davis) Treat. She always referred to herself as a coal miner’s daughter, having grown up in a mining camp near High Bridge. Doris married Donald Dale Labertew on October 6, 1943. She was a kind spirited woman who attracted people to her. Perhaps it was her diminutive size and her mighty spirit. She was a prayer warrior and devoted to the Lord.
She will be greatly missed by her sons, Don (Cheryl) and Doug (Kathy) Labertew, her sister, Betty Anderson; and six grandchildren, Brad Labertew, Kristin (Sean) Flaherty, Rebecca, James, Katelyn and Emily Labertew. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Dale Labertew; and two brothers.

I am sorry, I had no idea that Doris had passed. She told me she was moving and the next day you moved her. Doris was a wonderful neighbor and a friend. I will miss her. My prayers are with your family.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Doris. She was my first babysitter and always felt a special bond with her. She was a great friend with my mom Gertrude planning many activities at church. She was a special lady and a great friend to all. I am sure they are celebrating up in heaven with all the members of First Church.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during these days of separation. What a bitter-sweet joy there is in saying goodbye here but knowing what a glorious welcome she received where she knows so many loved ones and friends. She's an unforgettable person and was a terrific wife and mother in her home. Reunion day is coming.
