William John Kieler, 77, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
William was born January 27, 1937 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Kenneth and Hildreth (Hohl) Kieler. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was employed by Des Moines Water Works for over 40 years. William was a member of Southgate Lodge #657, American Legion Post 731, Chairman of the Board at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, and on the board of the Des Moines Water Works Credit Union. He loved woodworking, was a history buff, and an avid reader.
William is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; children, John Kieler, Laura (Michael) Boring, and Mike (Amanda) Kieler; two granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; sister, Lauretta (Guy) Kaplan; and brother, Rick (Kathy) Kieler.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Tom, Larry, and Michael.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Masonic service at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday August 11, 2014 at Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Avenue, Des Moines with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Bloomfield U.M.C.

Worked with Bill many years in pipelines at DMWW! He always treated me with respect! He called a lot of us, kid. It didn't matter if you were 40, he'd still call you kid! I still talked to him a lot after he gave up the backhoe operator job to be an engineer tech. Bill was a good man, I'll miss him! My prayers are with Bill's family! GOD BLESS!

I am so sorry for your loss, Nancy and family. Papa Ali was truly an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great grandpa. I don't ever remember seeing him watching anything but old war movies or Westerns. He will be dearly missed.With deepest sympathy...

My condolences for the family whom I have known for a long time. I know Bill through his son, Mike, and he raised one heck of a son in which I'm lucky to call a friend. I also worked with his wife, Nancy at Hy-Vee. I'm lucky to call the Kieler family friends as well. My heart goes out to them through this tough time.

Although I never got to meet Mr. Kieler, I heard lots of great things about him from his son John, my buddy from work. I could tell that John and his dad had a great bond. My prayers are that God will comfort the Kieler family, wrap everyone in his loving grace, and help them to live each day remembering and celebrating the life Mr. Kieler lived. And remember that God has welcomed him into his kingdom for eternal glory, maybe even with a fist bump.
