Vivian J. Jordan, formally of Des Moines, passed away at the age of 98 on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Harbor Assisted Living in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she had been a resident for nearly 6 years.

She was born Vandella Vivian Johnson on the family farm near Pomeroy, IA on September 24, 1915 to parents Arthur and Emma. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1932 and from Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in 1938. Vivian worked as an RN and X-Ray Technician at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines until 1944 when she met and married Captain Felix Huber while traveling through Wyoming. Following the war they eventually settled in Des Moines and raised two children. Vivian loved nursing and continued her nursing career working as an RN in the Emergency Room at Broadlawn’s and would later retire from the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines as a staff nurse. She was a member of the Mission Covenant Swedish Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, ROAL, the Norden Singers and V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.

Left to cherish her memory and lifetime of service is her daughter, Susan Harrington (Bill, now deceased) of Ft. Wayne IN; son, Steve Huber (Darla) of Des Moines, IA; sister, Lois Brefeld of San Diego CA; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 5 sisters and 1 brother.

Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
