Vivian J. Jordan, formally of Des Moines, passed away at the age of 98 on Monday, August 4, 2014 at Harbor Assisted Living in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she had been a resident for nearly 6 years.
She was born Vandella Vivian Johnson on the family farm near Pomeroy, IA on September 24, 1915 to parents Arthur and Emma. She graduated from Pomeroy High School in 1932 and from Iowa Lutheran School of Nursing in 1938. Vivian worked as an RN and X-Ray Technician at Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines until 1944 when she met and married Captain Felix Huber while traveling through Wyoming. Following the war they eventually settled in Des Moines and raised two children. Vivian loved nursing and continued her nursing career working as an RN in the Emergency Room at Broadlawn’s and would later retire from the V.A. Hospital in Des Moines as a staff nurse. She was a member of the Mission Covenant Swedish Church, St. Paul’s Episcopal, St. Andrews Episcopal Church, ROAL, the Norden Singers and V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Left to cherish her memory and lifetime of service is her daughter, Susan Harrington (Bill, now deceased) of Ft. Wayne IN; son, Steve Huber (Darla) of Des Moines, IA; sister, Lois Brefeld of San Diego CA; 5 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 5 sisters and 1 brother.
Services will be held at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines on Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Iowa Lutheran Hospital – Alumni Endowment, 700 E. University Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50316. Condolences may be expressed online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Felix and Vivian lived next door to my parents in Highland Park, IL in the 1940s and stayed friends for years after that. I loved visiting in Des Moines with my mom and was always so happy that she was a true friend to my mother, Jeanne Milligan. So sorry for your loss.

You have our deepest sympathy in your loss of Vivian. We visited her from St. Alban's Church for home communion and music. When she saw us, she always said right away, "Are we going to sing songs?" Vivian loved to sing hymns, and always sang with such vigor and joy. We treasure the time we shared with Vivian and know that she is now singing with the angels. You are in our thoughts and prayers. I never had the pleasure of meeting Vivian, but I became friends with Steve and Darla and know indirectly through that friendship the influence she had on her children. Vivian was a loving person and will be missed. I met her through Darla when we were working together and I always thought she was a "pistol". She was a very lucky person to have such a kind and caring family and they got these traits from her. My prayers go out to all of the family. God Bless Judy

Vivian was truly a remarkable person. She suddenly lost her husband when her son Steve was about 8 years old. I grew up with Steve from that point and saw first hand what a wonderful job she did raising her son. She did so in a loving and positive way. Steve always treated her in the same way. I will remember her as she lived most of her life; with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. A positive and strong woman that was loved by most everyone she met. Vivian lived life to the fullest and stayed interesting and interested in others well into her 90s. We will miss her greatly.
