Amara Monae Sterling

Service Details

Amara Monae Sterling was born on Good Friday, April 18, 2014, in Madison, Wisconsin, to her proud mommy, Diondra Lacey Sterling. Shortly after her birth, Diondra and Amara moved to Des Moines, Iowa.

Even though Amara was here for a short time, she always had a smile ready whenever you talked to her. She would laugh and coo and had begun to giggle when you tickled her. Amara hated tummy time, but always enjoyed sitting up like a big girl in her activity seat reaching for the pretty rattles. Her favorite thing in the world was snuggling with her mom, swaddled in a blanket with a pacifier in her mouth.

On August 3, 2014, at only three months and 16 days old, our precious little Angel, Amara, was whisked away to heaven. She is survived by her mother, Diondra Sterling; her grandmother, Karla (Joe) Hernandez; her grandfather, Skip (Suzanne) Sterling; her great-grandmothers, Dorothy (Charles) Spotts, Ethel Winston and Iris White; Aunts and Uncles, Keishia (Vic) Thacker, Asia (Jorge) Thacker, Roumel (Kacei) Thacker, Kendra (Dajour) Sterling, Gregory (Stephanie) Dorsey and Jeremy Dorsey; many cousins, great aunts, great uncles as well as a host of other beloved family and friends.

Waiting at the door of heaven to greet little Amara is her grandfather, Joe Hernandez, Sr.; great-grandmother, Barbara Ann Sterling; great-grandfathers, Joseph Sterling; Karl Thacker, Charles Spotts and Samuel Winston.

The family will greet visitors on Friday, August 8, 2014, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, Iowa, 50309, with a rosary service at 7:30 pm. A funeral Mass will be on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 1:00 pm at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 15 Indianola Road, Des Moines, Iowa, 50315.
