Brian W. Kuebrich, 54, of Knoxville, formerly from Des Moines and Colorado, passed away August 1, 2014 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital from a heart attack.

Brian enjoyed the outdoors, canoeing, and four-wheeling in his Jeep. He especially loved being in Colorado where he excelled in rock climbing and hiking the “fourteeners.”

Brian was born October 2, 1959 in Des Moines. He attended Hoover High School and graduated with the class of 1978, and then attended Iowa State University. An avid outdoorsmen, Brian was one of the original RAGBRAI riders, an Eagle Scout, and later went on to join the Air Force Reserves.

Memorial services will be held in the chapel at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines, where he was a member. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by a service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2014.

Brian was a tissue donor and will be cremated, his ashes spread over his beloved Colorado mountains.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Church of Hope.

Brian is survived by his mother, Shirley Kuebrich of Urbandale, IA; father, Charles “Terry” (Marge) Kuebrich of Montrose, CO; sisters, Lori (Tony) Petosa of San Diego, CA and Kelli (Brian) Stoaks of Clive, IA; five nieces and nephews; and companion, Nellie Boucher of Knoxville, IA.
