Muriel "Helen" Shrader

Muriel “Helen” (Guenther) Shrader was born October 25, 1918 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Leonard and Esther (Vogel) Guenther. She was a resident of the Des Moines area for most of her life. Helen’s giving nature led her to a career in nursing. She retired in 1980 after 40 years of dedicated service to others.

Helen was a devoted wife and mother who loved her family unconditionally. She raised her family in a home filled with love, kindness, and humor. She enjoyed music, flowers, cardinals, and traveling. Helen passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 95 years of age.

She is survived by her children, Darlene (Bob) Brown, Ed (Rhonda) Simmons, Doug (Cheri) Simmons, Sheryl (Jim) Harvey, and Jim (Laura) Shrader; eleven grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Arthur H. Simmons; second husband, Clifford Shrader; and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 4, 2014 at Park Avenue Presbyterian Church, 3120 SW 9th Street, Des Moines, with memorial service to begin at 3:00 p.m.
