Barbara J. Lossner, 83, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist.
Barbara was born October 15, 1930 in Lorimor, Iowa to Fred and Blanche Ross. She and her husband Robert owned and operated Litho Graphics, a local printing company in Des Moines. Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother devoting her life to her family and her home. She was a member of Norwalk United Methodist Church.
Barbara is survived by her children Rob Lossner, Vandi Lossner, Rod (Sharon) Lossner and Tammy (Bryce) Gilster; daughter-in-law, Roseanne Lossner; grandchildren, Joshua, Stephenie, Justin, Laura, Nathan, Ross, Blake, Zach, Kevin, Beth, Jessie and Bret; great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Lucas, Hadley, Shae and Camden; siblings, Audrey Husted, Ronald Ross, Marvin Ross and Carol Ross; her beloved dog, Puggely; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; son, Randall Lossner; sister, Margaret Ross; and her grandson, Chad Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at Norwalk United Methodist Church, 1801 Sunset Drive in Norwalk. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

My grandma! She was a beautiful lady inside and out! I have countless memories of her and some of the most fond ones were shared around the holidays where here red cake(my favorite) and Swedish creams(which I'm still learning) were some of the many favorites she had made! Growing up I would go over there on a weekly basis and she would always get a good laugh at how many hot dogs my tiny body at the time could consume. Some if my favorite times is where we would go up to the lake house and spend a few days just relaxing. My grandma sure enjoyed the little things in life. I wish my children would have got to know her and will never forget the look in her eyes the very first time my oldest grabbed for her hand to walk across back porch, they were filled with much joy. She would be proud of my ornery boys! She would always say to me the more ornery the better! We all will miss you so much but I bet you were very excited to be with your beloved again! Tell grandpa and my dad I said hi! Xoxoxo till we meet again!

Every memory I have of my Aunt Barb is a fond one, and there are many. I was not fortunate enough to visit in my adult life as much as I would have liked and I regret not making more trips to see family. As a child, we made a trip every couple of years and these are times I cherish. Aunt Barb was always kind and soft spoken with us. She was always feeding us something delicious. I was hooked on her cookies, and her peanut butter rice crispy treats with ice cream centers. Her home was always the gathering place. I always felt that if you went to Aunt Barb's and stayed long enough you would see most of the family at some point. The true mark of success in life is leaving a lasting impression on those who love you and those you cross paths with. Aunt Barb will never be forgotten. I always thought there would be time for one more trip to see you but now that is also my loss. This family has suffered several losses in the past few years and we that remain on this earth will bide our time until it is ours to be reunited with you. We Love you and will miss you deeply, God Bless you and keep you.

When you picture the traditional, storybook images of a Grandma, Barb Lossner couldnt be a better fit. Only warm memories flood my mind as I remember my Grandmother. I can still picture her warming her coffee as she circled the room asking each and every person what she could make them. As a kid it was warm coco made on the stove (not from a packet) and she always had the best marshmallows. She would always be listeningtaking everything in. Even with an army of noisy kids she didnt miss a beat. We would always explore the scary basement with her as she would show off the fort under the stairs that had been built by my Aunts and Uncles when they were kids. She would play her favorite Elvis tunes as she ironed and always laugh as we did our best impressions, even dressing us one of her favorite actors, James Dean. Holidays were magic. My Grandma and Grandpa captured the meaning of Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas like they were kids themselves they knew it was about family. Everyone says that their Grandma is the best cookthey are lying to you because mine was. Everything was made from scratch impossible to replicate. Her red cake, sugar cookies and mashed potatoeslegendary. Grandma Barb loved everyone and everyone loved her. You couldnt find a more caring person and she will be deeply missed by all who met her. Love you Grandma Barb, keep Grandpa Bob in line up there.

I spent many nights in that house growing up in Norwalk with Tammy. Barb was a lady that always made you feel welcomed in her home and the home she made, made you feel safe when you were in it. I may not have been there in 30+ yrs but She was one mom I will always remember. She loved her family dearly and so to you the family I will bet with all those great memories of her and the love you remember from her she will always be with you. Take care prayers and hugs to you all.

BARBARA I LOVED YOU SO MUCH. I LOOKED UP TO YOU AS WANTING TO BE LIKE YOU. WELL WE BOTH DID MARRY MILITARY GUYS. BECAUSE I COULDN'T WALK YOU USED TO CARRY ME ALL OVER. YOUR WEDDING RECEPTION WAS AT OUR HOME AND WHAT A THRILL THAT WAS. I DON'T EVER REMEMBER SEEING YOU GET MAD YOU WAS A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY. I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN YEARS BUT THINK OF YOU. OFTEN.
ONE DAY WE WILL WALK THE STREETS OF GOLD TOGETHER. MAY PEACE BE TO ALL YOUR FAMILY.

Grandma was the best grandma a kid could ask for. Always made small overnight sleep overs with our cousins feel like big events. The prankster in her father Fred resonated in her. Remember one stay as a little kid in the pool and suddenly seeing a black goldfish swimming with us; accompanied by more as awareness set in we weren't alone in the pool. (the gold fish were returned to the fountain and lived a happy life FYI)
Her heart was gentle, and she appreciated the smaller things. As a young child, once every year we would take a wood log, cover it in peanut butter and bird seed. Then sit on the deck and watch the birds and squirrels enjoy their snacks.
But most of what I remember is recent years, occasionally (way too far in between) we would visit her in the evening and talk. Sometimes just her, sometimes other aunts/uncles would be there. She would always have a bag of popcorn ready to be popped. There was no drama... no talking crap about other people, other than to share the highlights of how the other cousins were doing. She listened intently to Angie and I and how our lives were going. No matter how boring the subject was, she listened and we could tell she really cared. There was a lot of love in her heart, and we will miss her very much.
