Kathryn Gergen

A lifetime of giving came to an end Wednesday, July 9, 2014 when Kathryn Mary Gergen, age 65, passed away.

Kathryn was born October 23, 1948 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Theodore and Barbara (Cox) Gergen. She graduated in 1966 from Tech High School in Des Moines and earned her bachelors degree in nursing. She worked as an RN for numerous hospitals in Des Moines and South Carolina including Broadlawns, Lutheran, and Des Moines General. She was a resident of Des Moines, IA, Edisto Island, SC, and Orangeburg, SC. She was a very active member of A.A. and Al-Anon and enjoyed boating, fishing, and shrimping. She volunteered for spaying and neutering feral cats and Habitat for Humanity.

Kathryn is survived by her son, Jason Michael Mitchell; granddaughter, Alexandria Rochelle Wilson; siblings, Linda Confer, Theodore Marcus Gergen, Jr. (Dorothy), and Roberta “Bobbi” Allison; life partner, Pat Parcell; nieces and nephews, Todd Confer, Jamie Gergen, Robb Gergen, Sadessa Hernandez, Nicole McLaughlin, Wendy Gergen, Lisa Elswick, and Austin Allison; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Michael Ray Gergen.

According to the family’s wishes, cremation has occurred. There will be a celebration of life held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Altoona Christian Church, 2890 1st Ave S, Altoona, IA, 50009.
