Eugene Schmitt

Eugene R. Schmitt, 69, was born February 10, 1945, to Wendell and Reva Schmitt in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He passed away unexpectedly at Iowa Lutheran Hospital on Monday July 7, 2014.

Eugene served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was an avid sports fan and loved participating in family activities. He also enjoyed camping, bowling, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.

Eugene is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sheryl Schmitt; sons, Mike (Penny) Schmitt and Monte Schmitt; sister, Shirley Fulmer; grandchildren, Maddison and Boston Schmitt; and a host of beloved family and friends. Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, and infant brother.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., with burial to follow at Altoona Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family request that you come in casual attire to both visitation and service.
