Bernice Gillaspy

Bernice Marie Gillaspy, 98, died Thursday, July 3, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born December 28, 1915 in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Lester and Anna (Larsen) Shaddrick. She has been a resident of the area since she was 4 years old. Bernice was an excellent cook, enjoyed making bread and pies, and sewing clothes for her children.

Bernice is survived by her children, Everett Ray Gillaspy (Karen), William L. Gillaspy (Donna), and Crystal B. Bainter; 10 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Cody West; granddaughter, Kelly Gillaspy; husband, A.R. Gillaspy; and her parents.

Funeral will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, with visitation for two hours prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
