Margie J. (Tilford) Butz

Margie Butz, 81, was born March 8, 1933, in New Virginia, Iowa, to James and Wilma Tilford. She passed away in Des Moines on June 30, 2014.

Margie graduated from New Virginia High School and moved to Des Moines where she resided for the rest of her life. She was a licensed insurance agent and worked for 35 years. Margie married Marion Butz in 1982. She loved dancing, country music, fishing, and camping. Margie was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Professional Musicians Entertainers Club of Iowa, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Ladies Auxiliary, Za-Ga-Zig Hospital Auxiliary, and the Fiddler’s Assoication of Iowa where she served as Treasurer and was the Superintendent of the state fair fiddle contest for 16 years.

Margie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister. She is survived by her brother, Jim Tilford of Indianola; stepdaughter, Marcie Brightwell; stepson, Robert Butz; step grandson, Brad Fleener, all of Des Moines; stepson, Richard (Karen) Butz and 3 step grandsons of Naperville, IL; as well as many cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m.
