Michael Grother

Michael Jon Grother, 80, died Monday, June 30, 2014 at University Park Nursing and Rehab. Michael was born January 7, 1934 in Des Moines to Clifford and Mary Grother.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Pamela Hobby, Michelle (Larry) Smith, Richard (Brandy) Grother, Michael Grother, Gary (Linda) Grother, and Nora Grother; seven grandchildren, Samuel Hobby, Dustin Hobby, Chrystal Six, Larry Smith, Jr., Scott Grother, Gary Grother, Jr., and Andrea McCain; and 21 great-grandchildren, Samuel, Michael, Brandon, Carmen, Austin, Kasidy, Dominick, Delanney, Danica, Dalton, Stormie, Brianna, Michael, Billie, Andy, Gary III, Sophie, Bentley, Jerod, Aidyn, and Kaci. He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Duckworth, John Joe (Linda) Grother, Rita (Delbert) Hamrick, and David Grother; as well as many nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Mary Grother; brother, Clifford Jr.; and his sister, Shirley Bouge.

A celebration of Michael’s life will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at University Park Nursing and Rehab, 233 University Ave. Burial to follow at 12:30 p.m., at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter. There will also be a potluck celebration beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12 at Ashfield Park in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
