Patricia D. “Ma” Sumpter Lourens, 61, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines after a very brave battle with cancer. Patty was able to enjoy the last few months of her life at home, enjoying many visits with family and friends.
Patricia was born July 1, 1952 in Newton, Iowa to John and Norma Sumpter. Patty was a loving mother, sister, and cousin to many. She was very protective of her family and friends. She loved horses and everything Irish and was employed by Diamond Crystal for over 30 years.
Patricia is survived by her daughter, Natalie Jo Lourens; brother, Mike Sumpter; many special family and beloved friends including Lynda Hidok, Natalie Milbourn, and Vicki Rector. Patricia was “Aunt Patty” to Jayce and Jordan Jenkins, Hayleigh “Angel Face” Milligan, and Dylan Day. She will be greatly missed by her lifetime friends, Karla, Vicky, Pam, Cheryl, Garnett, and Nancy. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014 at Colfax Historical Society, 1720 Highway 117, Colfax.

Mommah,
I cannot stop thinking about you. I miss you every single day and I keep thinking that you're going to call me or walk through my door. I don't think you'll ever realize how much I love you- or how much I appreciated all that you ever did for me and for us. There was never a want that was not met... and there was never a day I had to question if you loved me. It doesn't seem right that you're gone. I want you to know that I could not have had a better Mother or stronger Mother if I tried .. I was blessed to call you Mah- and I was blessed to know a woman who is so loved by so many people over this state and around the Country. The stories I heard the week before your service and during your service filled my heart with warmth and brought laughter to my soul even when my heart was breaking. And even now, when it continues to break, I think about your laugh and how contagious it was and it makes me feel better for a while. Mah, you and I would always get in the silliest play fights- but you always won and got the last nose flick in there. Even when I tried to win- I never did! You have taught me the values of being the best person I can be. You have taught me to be a friend that gives their left arm to ensure their friend is taken care of and happy. You taught me to treat and love others the way I would want to be- you taught me to be grateful of all gifts I receive and to always say Thank You when someone did something kind. You taught me the values of hard work... and how nothing comes free that is to be valued. You gave me a path to follow which has lead me to more success than I ever would have dreamed to have. I hope you know with every accomplishment I've received- you received it just as much- I am who I am today because of the woman you taught me to be. I hope I never let you down, Mah. I hope I made you proud- and I hope I can continue to do so. My heart will miss you every single day. I wish I could give you the biggest hug- and flick you in the nose. I wish I could laugh with you and eat a meal. I wish I could be bored out of my mind watching "The Thornbirds" movie for the 100th time over again. Truth is, is I'd give anything to be able to do anything with you again. I hope heaven is beautiful and warm, and I hope there is a front porch where you are... I'll look forward to the day I can sit up there on it with you, Mama! I love you with my whole heart and if I could I would love you more than my heart could allow.

I'm just learning of or death Patty as I'm reading the paper past the time of your visitation, so sorry for that. I'm extending my sympathy to Mike and Natalie on the loss of your sister and mother!!! I have many found memories of our families together. You were a fighter Patty with your battle against cancer. Natalie, So sorry to hear of Patty's passing. I worked with her for fifteen years and she was a dear dear friend to me. I will always have my good memories of her. Take care!

Natalia so sorry about your mother worked with her a long time. She was a wonderful person,we would trade stories about our
Kids injurys . It was like you got hurt next thing you know i was telling her my son got hurt it went on like that for years. Take care.

Natalie I was so sorry to hear about your mom . A passing of a family member is never easy. Especially when it is a parent. One of your mothers greatest accomplishments is you .
