Donald L. Carpenter

Donald L. Carpenter of Ankeny, IA was born February 27, 1928, to Clifford and Mary Carpenter in Des Moines. He passed away June 21, 2014, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 86.
Don served in the United States Army until his honorable discharge. He worked at Western International and retired after 40 years of service.
Don is survived by his wife, Shirley Carpenter, of 66 years; daughters, Connie Ostrem, Carol Carpenter, and Terri Carpenter, all of Ankeny. He was a loving grandfather to six grandchildren, Traci Webb, Susan Taylor, Tami (Mason) Wallace, Lori (Brad) Murray, Matthew Helmick, and Melissa Helmick; as well as his 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert and Richard. His presence will be missed by all that knew him.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends Wednesday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home.

I was so sorry to hear about mr carpenters passing when Mary caught me at moms old house on sunday. I have many memories of growing up next to you all. my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this very tough time. I hope all the great memories will help you through this time.
