Ronald Bennett

Ronald D. Bennett of Des Moines joined his loved ones on June 17, 2014. He peacefully passed away at his home with his family by his side

Ron was born October 3, 1935 in Appanoose County, Iowa to John Harley and Vera (Fetters) Bennett. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Ron was a buyer for Delavan for 30 years. After leaving Delavan, he became a buyer for Ryko and retired in 1995 after 20 years of service to take care of his wife Shirley.

Ron is survived by his best friend and loving partner, Sharon Carpenter; daughters, Paula (Rande) Henkle, Shelly (Curtis) Seymour, Cheryl (DJ) Jaramillo, Toni (Jeff) Barber and Jeri (Mark) Wiedemer; extended family, Curt (Julie) Carpenter and Craig Carpenter; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Shirley Robirds; parents; mother-in-law, Ruth Laurenz; brothers, Harold and Doyle Bennett; and many other loving relatives.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2014 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street with family present from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with burial at Glendale Cemetery.
