Richard "Dick" John Kellar

Richard “Dick” John Kellar, 80, passed away Monday, June 9, 2014 at Granger Nursing and Rehab. He was born January 5, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Dick served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Firestone in 1989 after many years of dedicated service. Dick was a member of the VFW and Masons. He was also a member of First Church of Christ in Ankeny and belonged to the Senior Sunday School Group. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and creating Fretwork with a scroll saw.

Dick is survived by his children, Cindy (Jack) McChurch, Rick (Arvalla) Kellar, and Randy (Peggy) Kellar; grandchildren, Derek McChurch, Shawna (Jose) Landeros, Jackie McChurch, Amanda Kellar, Joe Kellar, Heather Kellar, and Tabitha Kellar; great-grandchildren, Raegan Drish and Treyton Kellar; brother, Fred (Mary) Kellar; as well as his sisters, Ardie (Chuck) Lane and Peggy Krause. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, and his parents, Mina and Theodore Schamp.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
