Karl Eilbert passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Karl was born on March 22, 1926 to Karl and Grace (Wade) Eilbert in Des Moines.

Karl served in the U.S. Army 75th Combat Infantry Division, serving in Germany and France during WWII where he received a Bronze Star and many other medals. He was honorably discharged in June of 1946. He worked for Brown Camp Hardware and Woodland Cemetery in his early years. In 1988, Karl retired from the City of Des Moines Parks Department where he had worked for over 30. He was a member of the NRA, American Legion and AARP.

Karl is survived by his loving wife, Dorrene; his children, Dennis (Joyce) Eilbert and Karleen Adams; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister in-law, Susan Eilbert; niece, Diane Griggs; nephew, Gary Eilbert; other extended family members; his many friends and co-workers from the City of Des Moines, especially longtime friend, Dale Webb; and many other beloved friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2013 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Burial will follow the service at Avon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
